BER Efficiency of Outdoor Optics Links Using Hybrid-SIM with Pointing Errors Operating on Extreme Turbulence Regime

The optical free space system performs in terms of BER over high turbulence channels, and fading caused by pointing error (misalignment) is investigated. An analysis is done of the error rate of a PPM-based GMSK-subcarrier intensity-modulated optical connection across a K-distributed stochastic FSO channel model. Utilising the Meijer-G function, a unique closed-form formulation of the average error rate is obtained across the combined channel PDF of the atmospheric turbulence and building sway effects. Numerical data from Monte Carlo are used to confirm the accuracy of the study.
