Phillipsite in pelagic REY-rich sediments and ferromanganese nodules from the Western Pacific: Geochemical characteristics and implications for REY enrichments

•Sediment- and nodule-hosted phillipsite respectively have homogeneous and inhomogeneous parent rock and undergo similar and different degree of alteration.•Different ambient fluids cause different compositions of the sediment-/nodule-hosted phillipsite.•Phillipsite does not enrich REYs due to its low cation exchange selectivity for REYs.
