In modern society, enterprise innovation ability is becoming a more and more important factor of enterprise sustainable development. The impact of innovation on enterprise work performance is an important topic for scholars to study. Knowledge is the source of enterprise innovation, and only by acquiring knowledge can it be transformed into internal capabilities of the enterprise, carrying out innovation. However, the enterprise input is high, the output is low in many situations. Enterprises acquire external knowledge from different groups and apply it in different stages of product development. Therefore, the relationship between external knowledge and innovation performance is a project that is worth studying. This paper adopts Bukowitz and Williams model and applies it in the process of McDonald's external knowledge acquisition. In addition, it illustrates how external knowledge is acquired in the three stages which are product creativity, R&D and commercialization, and further influences enterprise innovation performance. It is found that external knowledge acquired from customers, suppliers, competitors and cooperative partners plays important role in innovation performance. Based on the imagination of external knowledge acquisition to innovation performance, the factor of the product innovation development process is supplemented. This paper provides a reference and suggestion text for similar industries.
