Introduction to Coatings: Types and Their Synthesis

Coatings protect the surface of a substrate from damage and simultaneously increase the aesthetic value of the product. Various coatings such as self-clean, anti-corrosion, fire-retardant, and anti-icing have been developed these days based on their applications. In the direction of design and optimizations, various computational tools are now been used. In this book, various computational techniques have been briefly discussed for the property assessment such as water/oil contact angle, surface energy, binding energy with substrate, and transparency. However, in this chapter, we discuss various types of coatings, their fabrication techniques, and their applications.
