A Wireless Capsule Ultrasound Endoscopy Using Electrowetting Liquid Lens Scanning Device

In recent years, the use of endoscopic capsules for gastrointestinal tract examination has gained significant attention. Currently, array-based or single-channel configurations with rotary stepper motors are commonly employed to acquire images of the stomach and intestines. Acoustic lenses are often used to modify the focal point or distribution of acoustic energy from transducers. We propose the installation of a rotatable acoustic lens at the front end of the capsule, designing acoustic lenses with varying inclinations. By rotating the lens using a motor, the angle of contact between the acoustic lens and the transducer is altered. Ultrasonic waves emitted by the transducer are refracted through the lens, allowing collection of echo signals from different angles. Additionally, a microcontroller unit (MCU) with an integrated analog-to-digital converter (ADC) circuit generates mono-polar ultrasonic transmission circuits, producing multiple segments of pulse repetition frequency (PRF) signals for driving purposes.
