An Absorptive/ Transmissive Frequency Selective Surface Based Low-RCS Microstrip Antenna Array

This paper proposed a low radar cross-section (RCS) microstrip antenna array based on the absorptive/transmissive frequency selective surface (ATFSS). The ATFSS structure consists of a lossy metasurface and a band-pass metasurface, which are seprated by a dielectric spacer. The simulation results show that the ATFSS can achieve low reflectivities below -10 dB from 2.07 GHz to 7.52 GHz and the insertion loss is below 1 dB from 4.44 GHz to 5 GHz. Then, a 4×4 microstrip antenna array was designed and covered by the ATFSS. After combining the array antenna with the ATFSS, it can achieve a gain of 21 dBi around 4.6 GH and low RCS from 2.3 GHz to 7.4 GHz.
