Reconfigurable Phase Planar Transmitarray Unit Cell For mm-Wave Communication

This paper describes the design of a reconfigurable phase planar transmitarray unit cell for mmwave communication. The transmitarray unit cell is composed of two layers, each of them inspired by a mirror-antisymmetric split ring resonator structure (MA-SRR). By loading the MASRR structure with varactor diodes (one on the top ring and one on the bottom ring) it is possible to control the transmittance phase of the unit cell structure (by changing the varactor bias voltage) without significantly affecting the transmittance amplitude. Two layers have been integrated together to produce a phase variation larger than 300°, with a transmittance amplitude which varies from −3.5dB to −7.1dB.
