ME-Dipole Antenna with Enhanced Beamwidth and Bandwidth Simultaneously

This paper proposes a wideband linearly polarized magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna that has enhanced beamwidth in both the E- and H-planes. Firstly, attempt to influence the antenna's beam performance by loading a dielectric cavity. The simulation results indicate that loading an appropriate dielectric cavity can increase the beamwidth of the antenna. Furthermore, by selecting the size and spacing of the L-shaped probes appropriately, the antenna beamwidth can be further expanded. Finally, the proposed antenna is simulated. It is found that the radiation beam of the antenna is symmetric in both the E-plane and H-plane, and it remains stable in the low-frequency band and high-frequency band. The 3dB beamwidth of the antenna can reach 97±9° within the operating frequency band, while maintaining a wide impedance bandwidth of 37.3%.
