Performance Analysis of Angular Diversity Receivers in Visible Light Communications

This paper presents the performance analysis of angular diversity receivers (ADRs) in visible light communication (VLC) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) networks. The performance of different ADR configurations is compared through simulation and numerical analysis for indoor downlink scenarios: square pyramid (SP), square frustum (SF), hexagonal pyramid (HP) and hexagonal frustum (HF). It is shown that the bit error rate (BER) performance versus ADR rotation angles improves when the hexagonal type ADR is used. Our results also indicate that the HF ADR, which has the largest number of photodetectors (PDs) with seven, has the widest coverage for multi-stream.
