Design and Kinematics Analysis of DNA Nanomachines.

In recent years, the design and fabrication of nanomachines have obtained many significant achievements due to the development of chemical synthesis and bottom-up self-assembly. The rise of DNA nanomachines is one of the essential proceedings that not only broadened the research domain of mechanical science but also opened new doors for developing nanoscale tools that can find many valuable applications in biology, physics, chemistry, biomedical engineering, and nanotechnology. Here, the concept of DNA nanomachines was first introduced. Then, the design and construction of nanoscale kinematic joints were discussed. Following that, the DNA Waterbomb base was used to show the construction of complex nanomachines via hybridizing classic mechanisms and DNA origami concepts. Moreover, based on screw theory, a feasible and practical approach was developed to analyze and verify the DNA Waterbomb base using two-dimensional electron microscopy images.
