Heavy rain detection through swarm IoT sensors in small and medium scale catchments with AI-enhanced cell movement prognosis as an addition to precipitation radar systems

Heavy rainfall has been in the public eye as a serious hazard not only since the serious events of 2021. Especially in topographically complex catchment areas, previous forms of precipitation assessment have reached their limits. For this purpose, we show the exemplary development of an AI-supported early warning system and cell detection (now-casting) of heavy rainfall events using an IoT-based optical method to record precipitation intensities using the example of the municipality of Liederbach am Taunus.
