Seismic response of CFST Double-Tee moment connections: Design criteria and experimental tests

•Design method for unsymmetric prying actions (UPA) in Double-Tee joints are given.•Experimental tests and FE simulations on two CFST-TB Double-Tee joints are discussed.•Joints designed neglecting UPA exhibit the premature failure of the bolts.•Joints designed considering UPA show ductile response up to rotation equal to 0.06 rad.•FE analyses show that the bolt force is well estimated by the proposed design method.
