Rapid supplement of active oxygen by constructing Pt-Fe alloy structure to improve catalytic stability for furniture paints industry VOCs removal

•Replenishment of active oxygen species is crucial for stable oxidation of VOCs.•Toluene oxidation mechanism is changed from L-H over Pt/M to MvK over Pt1Fe1.5/M.•Excellent stability is due to the better O2 activation and lattice oxygen mobility.•Reaction pathways in single and binary VOCs oxidation are proposed.
