Modern pollen distribution in moss samples along an elevational gradient in southeast Tibet

•Indicator pollen taxa and palynological assemblages can reflect the vertical vegetation distribution.•Pollen grains of main taxa originating from the upper and lower forests show different dispersal characteristics.•Precipitation and wind speed mainly influence the pollen distribution in the mountain area.
