Demonstration of 112Gb/s PAM-4/6 Transmission Using Low-Complexity Volterra-DFE

In this paper, we propose a low-complexity decision feedback equalization algorithm (DFE) by simplifying Volterra structure. Based on this equalizer, experiments using a 30GHz-MZM show that PAM-4 and PAM-6 signals can transmit over 2km in a standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) reaching 7% overhead KP4-FEC (BER=2.4*10(-4)) and HD-FEC (BER=3.8*10(-3)) respectively. After 10km transmission, the BER of PAM-4 can reach the threshold of SD-FEC(BER=2.5*10(-2)).
