A Four Feeds per Beam Method of Multibeam Reflector Antennas for HTS

Large number of narrow beams are required in High Throughput Satellite (HTS). The number of feeds of multibeam reflector antennas on HTS is enormous. Large scans will cause beam deformations, resulting in poor antenna performance. More antenna configurations will be investigated to solve this problem. Multiple feeds per beam (MFPB) method is one solution. The paper analyzes one-line beams of a four-feed-per-beam (4MFPB) antenna with two separated Tx/Rx reflectors, compared to a single-feed-per-beam (SFPB) antenna with four combined Tx/Rx reflectors. The simulated results show that the 4MFPB antenna improved the performance of beams with large scans including overlap level and interference to the same color beams compared with that of the SFPB antenna. As a result, the 4MFPB method is a good solution for future HTS designs.
