摘要
It is known that obesity among adolescents is becoming an increasingly prevalent issue and has been linked to increased long-term risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, hyperglycemia, diabetes mellitus, and worsened quality of life [ [1] Ruiz L.D. Zuelch M.L. Dimitratos S.M. Scherr R.E. Adolescent obesity: diet quality, psychosocial health, and cardiometabolic risk factors. Nutrients. 2019; 12 Crossref PubMed Scopus (110) Google Scholar ]. In the United States alone, 14.7 million (19.7%) youth from ages 2–19 are affected leading to the obvious notion that effective tools are needed to combat this pandemic [ [2] Segal L.M.,A. Rayburn J. The state of obesity: better policies for a healthier America 2016. September 2016 Google Scholar ]. Surgical weight loss procedures are being increasingly utilized, but their adoption amongst adolescents remains low.
