In the framework of the emerging Smart ElectroMagnetic Environment (SEME) paradigm, this work presents a first experimental proof of the feasibility and effectiveness of passive and static electromagnetic skins (PSSs) for improving the coverage within an indoor 5 GHz Wi-Fi network. The goal of this study is to verify that the proper design and installation of a simple/low-cost SEME field manipulating device can boost the received power and the overall quality-of-service (QoS). Towards this end, a preliminary result (drawn from an on-going large-scale measurement campaign mimicking as much as possible a realistic user experience using commodity devices) is shown.
