摘要
Graduate medical education (GME) programs in Canada recently transitioned to Competence by Design (CBD), a Competency-Based Medical Education (CBME) model developed by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) ( 1 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. Competence by Design. Available at: https://www.royalcollege.ca/rcsite/cbd/competence-by-design-cbd-e. Accessed January 26, 2022). Transforming postgraduate diagnostic radiology training in Canada with competence-based medical education. Can Assoc Radiologists J. 2021; : 324-325 Crossref PubMed Scopus (3) Google Scholar ). The transition to CBD heralds a significant transformation of the structure of assessment and evaluation in diagnostic radiology GME programs ( 5 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. CBD and assessment. Available at: https://www.royalcollege.ca/rcsite/cbd/cbd-assessment-e. Accessed March 4, 2023. Google Scholar , 6 Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada. As such, it is integral that faculty and residents develop strategies to diligently navigate this important transition. This article provides an overview of CBD and outlines evidence-informed strategies that faculty and residents may employ to approach assessment and evaluation upon the transition to CBD more effectively. While this article focuses on CBD in diagnostic radiology GME programs, the strategies that are outlined also may be applied to CBD in radiology subspecialty GME programs, such as neuroradiology, pediatric radiology, and interventional radiology, as well as nuclear medicine. The strategies that are outlined also may be applied to other CBME models and thus shall become of increasing importance as diagnostic radiology GME programs internationally implement other CBME models.
