•The Dabaozhuang deposit is a VMS-like deposit formed in a volcanic lake in the Luzong Basin.•The pH and fO2 of ore-forming fluid are main factors causing the transition from pyrite to anhydrite.•The lacustrine massive pyrite deposit has genetic relationship with nearby IOA deposit.
