摘要

•A bright-dark pulse in a passively Q-switched thulium-doped fiber laser.•8-Hydroxyquinoline cadmium chloride hydrate (8-HQCdCl2H2O) as an optical modulator.•The TDFL achieved a repetition rate of 33 kHz and a minimum pulse duration of 3.5 µs.•The laser operated at 1946.96 nm with the maximum pulse energy of 70 nJ.
