Submicrometer analyses of the polymer flow modifier effects on metal–polymer direct joining

•Flow modifier to PA6 greatly enhances the metal-polymer hybrid joining strength.•The joining strength was improved by better mechanical interlocking effect in submicro scale.•The evidence of hydrogen bond interaction at joint interface was found.
