•The proposed approach can directly connect the microstructure with FLC.•The newly proposed method can determine the constitutive model of the constituent phase.•f0 of the M-K model should not relate to the roughness of sheets.•The FLC on the left-hand side is overestimated based on the Nakajima simulation without damage model.
