•DRS measurements confirm the higher absorbance at visible region in Fe/ZnOs materials.•The degree of electron-hole recombination decreased in Fe modified ZnOs.•Fe grafted ZnO at 70 °C found to be highly visible active photocatalyst for NBB degradation.
