Assessment of the benthic ecological quality status (EcoQs) of Laizhou Bay (China) with an integrated AMBI, M−AMBI, BENTIX, BO2A and feeding evenness index

•Five widely used indices and a proposed composite index were used to evaluate the ecological quality of temperate bay under multiple disturbances.•The composite index which integrates five individual indices is more robust than any individual index.•The EcoQs in most areas (83.78%) of Laizhou Bay is acceptable.•The degradation of habitat quality leads to the decline of species and functional diversity of macrobenthic community.
