•Hollow NiCoP@C(Zn) nano-cuboid with micropores induced by Zn-metal is reported.•Well-matched micropores can facilitate the surface-driven capacitive storage.•Aqueous supercapacitor shows superior rate response and long-life cyclability.•Pouch device shows high mechanical reliability, high safety and high practicality.
