•75 %–90 % of individuals with moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) remain undiagnosed and untreated.•Sleep education is limited in clinical programs.•Providers face barriers to OSA screening (lack of education, lack of available screening tools, lack of time).•Educational modules can improve knowledge on OSA.•Adding OSA screening tools to the electronic medical record (EMR) may improve OSA screening rates.
