摘要

•A method was developed for deriving maize vertical leaf area profiles (LAP) from spectral data.•The relationship between leaf area index (LAI) and LAP was decoupled using a hybrid method and a bell-shaped function.•The largest leaf layer and LAI are key features for LAP modeling.•The developed approach is valuable and cost-effective and is complementary to laser scanning.
