Parsing within & between-person dynamics of therapy homework completion and clinical symptoms in two cognitive behavioral treatments for adults with anhedonia

•Anhedonic adults reported greater symptom improvement between psychotherapy sessions in which they completed greater than average therapy homework.•Relations between anhedonia severity and homework completion were only evident within-person and not comparing average levels across participants.•Repeated assessment data are crucial for investigating theoretical models of therapeutic change processes.
