Precautionary Measures

The chapter showcases how the examples considered in the book shows that there is a pattern of risky experimentation with automated systems in the Home Office. It argues that the automated systems come with benefits, as well as very real challenges. The author shows an important part of the solution to these challenges would be for government to develop a protocol to guide the use of automated decision-making tools to ensure that they are subjected to sufficient pre- application use to avoid obvious shortcomings.
