Efficient Crest Factor Reduction Scheme for OFDM Systems

Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is widely used in many modern wireless communication systems for the advantages of high bandwidth utilization and system robustness. However, OFDM systems suffer from high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR), also known as Crest Factor (CF), which requires Power Amplifiers (PAs) work at a back-off point, resulting in reduced efficiency. Peak cancellation method has been proven to be efficient in Crest Factor Reduction (CFR). This paper focuses on the system performances of peak cancellation method in OFDM systems and on the basis of it, a high efficiency CFR scheme is proposed which is tested under LTE signals. The results show a 3~4 dB reduction for PAPR while maintaining good EVM and ACPR performances.
