Investigation of the Discharge Decomposition Characteristics of HFO-1336mzz(E) Mixture as a Potential Alternative for SF6

HFO-1336mzz(E) has been seen as a potential SF6 substitute due to its excellent environmental friendliness and electrical property. However, the decomposition characteristics of HFO-1336mzz(E) under discharge are unclear at present. Therefore, the AC breakdown test on 0.1 MPa 30% HFO-1336mzz(E)/70% air mixture was carried out and the decomposition compounds of mixed gas after multiple breakdowns were detected by using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The test results show that the main decomposition compounds mainly include CF 4 , C 2 F 6 O 3 , C 2 F 4 , CHF3, C 3 F 8 , CF 3 CN, C 2 HF 5 , C 4 F 6 , C 3 HF 3 , and C 5 F 8 , etc. Physic-chemistry properties analysis indicated that CF3CN is a highly toxic gas, which might be a potential threat to the engineering personnel. Therefore, sufficient attention should be triggered when the gas is detected in the operation and maintenance.
