Compact Dual Polarized Ultrawideband (UWB) Antipodal Vivaldi Antenna for Rover Based GPR System

The design of a compact ultrawideband (UWB) dual polarized antipodal Vivaldi antenna has been presented in the manuscript. 4 nos. of compact single polarized antipodal Vivaldi antennas, designed with exponential tapering, have been arranged in the box configuration. The antenna elements having like polarizations are combined with a 1:2 wideband Wilkinson power divide and hence, dual polarization has been obtained. The proposed antenna has volume $\left(0.2 \lambda_1 \times 0.2 \lambda_1 \times 0.08 \lambda_1\right)$ (where $\lambda_{1}{=}$ wavelength at 0.3GHz) and has been optimized to achieve the bandwidth from 0.3GHz to 3GHz. The proposed antenna structure has also been developed and characterized.
