Artificial intelligence for vascular lesions

Wireless capsule endoscopy (WCE) is an effective, reliable, safe, and noninvasive technology used for the diagnosis of various lesions and abnormalities in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. The adoption of this technology in the clinical environment has been below initial expectations, mainly because the analysis of the generated WCE videos is long and complex. Since the review of these videos by medical experts is tedious and complex, artificial intelligence has been proposed in several studies as the solution to alleviate these problems. Among all detectable lesions, one of the most popular is vascular lesions such as angiodysplasia. In this chapter, we will review the most important works and public datasets on the detection and characterization of vascular lesions of the GI tract using WCE.
