摘要
Working memory impairment in people with schizophrenia appears to be associated with neuronal morphological alterations, such as smaller somal sizes, shorter dendritic arbors, and fewer dendritic spines, in layer 3 pyramidal neurons (L3PNs) of the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). Consequently, L3PNs are thought to receive fewer excitatory inputs, resulting in lower activity and reduced drive for mitochondrial energy production. However, the relationship between somal size and energy production has not been assessed in individual L3PNs.
