摘要
Neuroinflammation is hypothesized to contribute to suicide risk and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). Early life adversity (ELA) and recent life stress (RLS) can each increase the risk of both MDD and suicide by causing inflammation and compromising brain function in regions involved in mood regulation, such as the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (dlPFC). In particular, the proinflammatory molecule Cyclooxygenase 2 (Cox-2), the prostaglandin synthesizing enzyme, is elevated in MDD patients and may represent a risk factor for suicide. We sought to examine Cox-2 expression in neurons and glia in the dlPFC in depressed suicide decedents and assess the effect of reported ELA and RLS.
