Depth of Field Blur Effect Considering Convergence Distance in Virtual Reality.

In this demonstration, we propose a calculation method for the focus distance of a depth of field blur effect that incorporates the convergence distance with the aim of improving the sense of photorealism and interactive experience for virtual reality (VR) media using a head-mounted display (HMD). The proposed method considers the convergence distance in the calculation of focal distance to avoid misfocusing on unintended objects. In addition, a calibration of the convergence distance for filling the gap between the measured convergence distance and the intention of the user is introduced. This demonstration using a laptop PC and an HMD with an eye tracker can provide a photorealistic experience.
