Ultra Thin Dual-Polarized Flexible Cavity Slot Antenna for the 5G Communication

The 5G is emerging as a next-generation communication technology and it is anticipated to provide of massive data rate and very low latency to the consumers. Meanwhile, with the rise of the 5G, it is predicted that wearable and flexible devices such as antenna will be the remarkable end node in the Millimeter Wave frequency bands. This paper represents a compact and low-profile dual-polarized cavity slot antenna in single and array configurations with a thickness of 202 um. In the measurement, the proposed antennas show a −10dB reflection coefficient with a wide bandwidth at the operating frequency. Which covers 27.55–28.5 GHz and 27.1–28.75 GHz for the single and array element, respectively. The measured maximum gain is 5.5 dBi at 28 GHz for the single element and 9.1 dBi at 27.5 GHz for the array element. Moreover, the isolation between two feeds of the dual-polarized antenna is about 30 dB and 35 dB at 28 GHz for the single and array element, respectively. All results indicate that the proposed Cavity slot antenna has broad application prospects in the next generation communication.
