摘要
REBCO tapes have
an immense potential
in next-generation electric machines such as high-efficiency industrial motors,
high-power wind turbine generators,
and
electric aircraft
.
We have constructed a pilot-scale advanced metal organic chemical vapor deposition (
A-MOCVD)
manufacturing tool to produce 50-meter-long REBCO tapes with film thickness over 4 μm in a single pass. The composition of these REBCO tapes with 5% Zr dopant has been optimized for
high critical current
in low magnetic fields at 65 K, specifically for use in an industrial motor. Several 50-meter-long tapes with 4+ μm thick films and 5% Zr have been fabricated with uniform critical current (
Ic
) over 1,750 A/12 mm at 65 K, 0.25 T. The
critical current of all tapes has been examined over their entire length by scanning hall probe microscopy at 77 K, 0 T.
The tapes were slit and copper plated to 4 mm wide strands to fabricate and test a rotor coil for a 500 HP motor.
