Evaluation of Explicit Filtering Techniques for Large Eddy Simulation of Reacting Flows

Explicit filtering has been shown to improve the accuracy of Large Eddy Simulation. Although many efforts have applied explicit filtering in some form, this paper focuses on methods that seek to maintain the spectral content of resolved variables to that of the explicit filter kernel while closing respective subfilter terms using models that have been successful with implicit filtering. A form of this method for reacting compressible flow is presented along with recommended assumptions and closures based on the findings of previous efforts.
