•The DIA model is a dynamic information acquisition model for profit maximization.•We introduce the quotation process optimization of a repair shop (QO model).•The QO model is a specific refinement of the DIA model.•A stochastic dynamic program allows to find the optimal solution for DIA models.•We study heuristics that simplify the process of information acquisition.
