•Superhydrophobic PFDS/EDTA/ACO coating was fabricated.•The scale inhibitor EDTA can be stably stored in the superhydrophobic coating.•The superhydrophobic PFDS/EDTA/ACO coating exhibits outstanding anti-scaling and anti-corrosion performance.
