In this paper, we first propose the notion of authenticated aggregator-oblivious encryption (AAOE) and then develop a privacypreserving smart metering protocol based on it. Our protocol enjoys computing aggregated metering data periodically and the time-of-use tariff-based billing of customers simultaneously, without revealing actual metering data to the utility provider. Our protocol construction is based on computationally cheap primitives, namely aggregator-oblivious encryption and message authentication code. We analyze the security of our protocol, and evaluate their performance on a real-world dataset.
