摘要

•A new approach is developed for the topology optimization of ribbed slabs and shells.•This approach can be easily integrated into both SIMP and BESO frameworks.•Compared with conventional ones, the new approach can produce designs with higher performance.•The optimized results obtained from this approach have no isolated ribs.
