Comparison of job satisfaction level among doctors working in public verses private health care facilities of Sindh

Objective: To compare the job satisfaction of doctors working in public verses private sector of Sindh, Pakistan. Methodology: A cross-sectional study was conducted by selecting 102 doctors from both primary healthcare facilities of private sector and public sector selected randomly in one of the district of Sindh. A validated, pretested tool was used to compare job satisfaction among doctors working in public verses private sector. Results: Out of 102 participants, 78 (76.4%) were males and 24 (23.6%) females with majority belong to under 40 years of age (26%). Overall job satisfaction with all aspects showed no statistical difference (p = > 0.005) between doctors working with Department of Health (DoH) and Peoples Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI). However, doctors working with DoH were more satisfied with hospital facilities (p = < 0.005), work environment (p = < 0.005), remuneration and benefits (p = < 0.005). Conclusion: The private organization doctors were more satisfied with their working environment, hospital management, supervision and remuneration, benefits as compared to those who are working with public sector.
