Efficient skeleton curve-guided five-axis sweep scanning based on optimal traversing of multiple connected skeleton curves

•Continuous five-axis inspection path is generated for the surface with interior holes.•Inspection system kinematics and surface topology are considered for path planning.•Finding optimal inspection path is solved by mixed integer programming optimization.•Inspection efficiency is tremendously improved as compared with existing methods.
