•Terahertz (THz) technology can be employed as a non-invasive imaging for early detection and cancer diagnosis.•THz medical imaging detect changes in water content and structural variations to distinguish cancerous cells from normal tissues.•Nanoparticle contrast agents may enhance sensitivity and specificity of THz imaging.
