The effects of a water-bound construction consolidation centre on off-site transport performance: the case of the Brussels-Capital Region

•The environmental transport performance of a multimodal Construction Consolidation Centre is assessed.•The sustainability impact is evaluated using GIS & external cost calculations, along with transport planning effects.•Annually, €49,404.67 of damage costs are saved, mostly on congestion, climate change, noise and infrastructure.•However, improvements in the IWT sector are necessary to tackle local air pollution emissions (PM, NOx).•This setup can offer decision-makers a planning solution, if specific applicability requirements are considered.
