•High Mn content promotes the partition of Mn to NiAl by occupying Al sublattice.•Cu/Ni(Mn, Al) co-precipitates are formed just in the martensite of the DP steel.•The growth of precipitates doesn’t follow volumetric diffusion-controlled process.
