Stand structure and carbon storage of a young mangrove plantation forest in coastal area of Bangladesh: The promise of a natural solution

•Stand structure, species composition, and biomass stocks in the young mangrove plantation have been investigated in terms of evaluating the potential.•The effects of stand variables on belowground root carbon stocks have also been investigated.•Stand structure and root biomass stocks vary significantly along with riverward and landward sites.•Root carbon stock shows a significant positive relationship with stand density and basal area.•The young mangrove plantation showed promising results in terms of nature-based solutions.
